DGA takes delivery of the French Navy’s fourth Overseas Support and Assistance Ship.
On 5 April 2019, the French defense procurement agency (DGA) took delivery of the Dumont d’Urville, the fourth and final overseas support and assistance ship (formerly known as the multi-mission ship – B2M) ordered in January 2017 from the Kership joint-venture, bringing together Piriou and Naval Group. This new French Navy vessel, currently based in Brest, will be based in Fort-de-France in Martinique.
The first BSAOM, the D’Entrecasteaux, has been operating from Nouméa in New Caledonia since July 2016. The Bougainville, the second vessel in the series, has been stationed in Papeete in Polynesia since December 2016. The third unit, the Champlain, returned to its base port of Port-des-Galets on Reunion Island in the summer of 2017.
