Launched on 1 June 2017 in Concarneau, the Support and assistance vessel (BSAH) ‘Loire’ is the first in a series of four multipurpose support vessels.
The Loire is designed to carry out several types of missions : supporting forces (escorting and providing services for a submarine, towing major naval units, etc.), protecting people and property (rescuing human lives, protecting the environment, etc.), and supporting the region (anchoring and maintaining trunks, lifting trunks or wrecks, etc.).
Les 3 autres BSAH auront pour nom : ‘Rhône‘, ‘Seine‘, et ‘Garonne‘. Ils seront basés à Toulon et à Brest (2 dans chaque port).
